Bimberi Youth Justice Centre (Bimberi)

CRS, in partnership with Multicultural Hub Canberra, deliver the Cultural Connections Program out of Bimberi Youth Justice Centre (Bimberi). The program aims to address cultural dis-engagement amongst young people in Bimberi and create cultural connections with the multicultural young people. The Cultural Connections program allows young people in Bimberi to participate in cultural practices, learn about different cultural practices and provide them with a sense of identity, pride and connection. This supports young people to improve their understanding of cultural diversity, their own cultural identity issues and foster strong relationships within their own broader cultural community.

Course outcomes include:

• Stronger connection to community

• Understanding of diversity
• Reduction in racism towards Bimberi staff and other young people
• Increase in self-confidence and resilience in young people
• Stronger communication skills to navigate conversations with parents.
