Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC)

CRS work closely with the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) to provide detainees with a community response to restoring and repairing relationships. Support is extended to all detainees at AMC, with a focus on those aged 18-25, with children between the ages of 8-25, or as identified by AMC staff. CRS also deliver the Better Connections program at the AMC; which is a 10-week psychoeducation course on emotional regulation and conflict resolution. This course aims to:

  • Support participants to explore how to express feelings and needs using non-violent communication strategies.
  • Take a proactive rather than reactive approach to conflict.
  • Improve awareness of personal triggers and provide strategies to de-escalate.
  • Increase safety amongst group participants.
  • Strengthen healthy relationships and connection within AMC, family and community.

All participants who graduate from the course receive a Certificate of Completion.
